get your mind right
She is finished, and has her head on straight. It was floppin' around there for a bit.
Haven't the slightest idea what the glaze scenario will be.
I'm liking the octopus angle and want to make some more...
This is the wierdest part "in the process" for me; the it's done part. It's the same feeling I have when I finish a book I am really into and have been reading for some time. I'm so into finishing the story but I am also sad I will no longer be spending time with "my book friends". You are no longer immersed in the story - ultimately, the book gets put on a shelf. There is such excitement and energy in the process of creating something - and then you make the thing and well....you're done, it's over. wierd. I don't know if it's this way for other people. I still have work to do on her, she has to be fired, glazed, blah, blah - but I'm in this place where I am moving on...
entering the 'what's next' time.
Christa Assad
I had to show this photo again; click on it and see it in it's full glory. Click on the picture to glory in the gloriousness. Just look at the thing - it's a Dutch Painting.
big fan. I have to ask Christa who took this photo.

New sculpture
Here's a new piece of work; pics taken last weekend and last night. I am still working out the form - much more detail work needs to be done and after looking at these pictures here; I may make some changes...
and yes, she needs a head.
Carol Wedemeyer
Carol Wedemeyer is an artist I know at Ruby's Clay Studio in SF. I love Carol's work and the oceanic thematic in this narrative. What really strikes me with this show is how it reads as a theatre set. High drama on the high seas!
Carol's show is up at Ruby's until Feb 15. Sorry about the grainy phone pics; I had to get these up. There are many more pieces I did not post.

The Pig & the Egg
This is the tiny pig; she is trying to figure out how to eat that egg.

Gustavo
Gustavo Perez
I am FLOORED by his work. It's so simple at first glance it's almost easy to pass by it. I'm saying, Look Again. There is nothing to chance in this work, it is elegant exactitude. Precise, strategic, controlled and yet can you see the freedom and flow in the straight uprightness? There is a perfect modern balance between symmetry and the absolute.

Porcelain to the people!
Read all about and buy Matt & Dave's Clay here
I orderd some of 'the coup' earlier this week and it just arrived!! Matt was really fast to respond to my questions, and really nice! So, what they're sayin' is they have an easier, more workable, MID-Fire porcelain! Sign me up? Perfect timing; I've been fantasizing about really moving to porcelain and wanting to find a mid-fire. Looks like I have; I am excited to see how it performs.
At the very least; check out Matt & Dave's Blog Slipcast - it's all ceramics - all the time!
The Bedlam of Beefy
Check out the Bedlam of Beefy; found on one of my far flung web safari's. It fast became a daily read...
Uncle Beefy came by We Swim with the Fishes and found something he liked! Cheers, love the Uncle Beefy!
a big thank you back for the mention. big thank you, seriously!
Can we talk about Susannah Israel
I admire her work so much, I find it almost formidable. She is definitely one of the major influences for my venturing into sculpture work at all. I attended a 'talk' Susannah did at Ruby's Clay Studio in San Francisco a few years ago. I was so impressed with her approach, philosophy, ease and confidence in working. She is so sure of where she is going with her pieces and their underlying stories and themes. And she is a masterful at working loose & fast. I admit I'm intimidated, but look forward to any time I can spend learning every little thing she is willing to teach me.
