When I first came across Michael Ferris Jr's work, I thought it was clay which kind of made my mouth hang open for a minute!
They are recycled wood, which makes my head hurt. in a good way.
They are pure Italianate high renaissance and yet fully modern and abstract; facinating. I don't know what to think. They make my mind race; I find them riveting.
I instantly thought of francis bacon and lucien freud and even kandinsky...just for starters.
