Song of the Open Road

Afoot and lighthearted I take to the open road,
healthy, free, the world before me,
the long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

-walt whitman, the tiniest piece of the brilliant 'song of the open road'

Anne Van Hoey's influence

Anne Van Hoey's work continues it's limitless influence on me.
I instantly focus on the tight, modern, and seemingly effortless shapes. I love how 'sharp' the circular elements are - they are buoyant and floaty, but still express as stout and solid. A thing so excellently designed smacks of the transcendent; it becomes impossible to describe. Truly. Also, the clay body is the perfect match for this form.

salt water is the cure

The cure for anything is salt water - sweat, tears, or the sea.

~Isak Dinesen

I'm having one of those days. Actually, wait, a week. A week where all I want to do is be in the water. Alone. Away from everything. To lay my head on my board and float over the swells as they come in, to paddle around and be enveloped in the ocean just hearing the water move. To look towards shore like it's a stranger and never coming in...

When I first came across Michael Ferris Jr's work, I thought it was clay which kind of made my mouth hang open for a minute!

They are recycled wood, which makes my head hurt. in a good way.

They are pure Italianate high renaissance and yet fully modern and abstract; facinating. I don't know what to think. They make my mind race; I find them riveting.

I instantly thought of francis bacon and lucien freud and even kandinsky...just for starters.
